Behold, The Soldier Thread’s take on Ke$ha’s “Blind”. And don’t let your opinion of the glittered one cloud your judgement on this- because Justin and Patty of TST knock it out of the park.

Given the low-light conditions for this one, I used a Canon FD 28mm prime lens. Back when I got my 550D, I’d taken to picking up a bunch of FD lenses off eBay. This was mainly due to their relative low cost as they are outdated, non-auto lenses- not to mention they boast very low f-stops (this 28 drops all the way t0 1.8). You have to buy an adapter to even get them to attach to the EOS mount, but I love the look it achieves. Great in low-light, completely manual but easy to use and it seems to give everything a warm, somewhat soft look without compromising the HD quality of the camera itself.

At some point, I plan to shoot/edit something utilizing all my different lenses as a sort of compare/contrast experiment.

A couple of years ago I became Facebook friends with their lead singer Patricia when she became a fan of our web series The Andrew and Matt Show. Soon after diving into the band’s music, I immediately wanted to work with them in some capacity. Fast forward to Summer 2011, and they were in need of a shooter/editor for some “acoustic” videos- basically impromptu, stripped down performance vids. The first, “Matador” is embedded below and I’ve already shot 3 more that they will most likely roll out over a period of time.

Here’s to the forging of a new collaboration with a fantastic band, not to mention very cool people. Be sure to check them out on Facebook and stream their newest hit “Anybody”.

The idea behind their “Live Beyond Challenge” is simple: each month they will partner with a local charity and hold an event on the Copper Ridge site to promote sales of plots of land. For each plot sold, $1,000 will be donated to said charity with a guarantee of at least $1,000 right off the bat. It’s a cool idea and was a big success for both Copper Ridge and the inaugural charity, Hope Hospice.

Also, I’m embedding the film once more in this post because it is slightly updated. Nothing has changed about the edit but, since the last time I posted it, I had sound editor Cary Daniels come in and do a pass at the dialogue audio. I think it sounds much cleaner and nicer than before.

My day job interfered at the last moment resulting in me not being able to commit anywhere near the time I’d hoped, which was disappointing. But I was still able to brainstorm and help write the film Friday night, be present for some of the shoot on Saturday and I composed the music as well (and by “composed”, I mean I threw it together on my iPad’s Garage Band app in about 5 minutes).

I think the movie turned out great and hat’s off to Christian and crew for turning in something that’s very well made and pretty hilarious, maybe even downright bizarre. Check out the movie below. And FYI- our genre was “Heist”, our prop was a purse, the character was Kevin Withers-  a soccer coach and our line was “don’t tell me what to do.”
